Staple! Independant Media Expo Review
This past weekend at The Marchesa, the 11th annual Staple! spectacle spanning both Saturday and Sunday, it was more than we could imagine. Staple! is nothing more than a colorful, bustling exposition of independent comics, art, animation, self-publishing, and gaming, and a gathering of fans in the Geekdom world – some laid-back, some ravening and other various subcultures inbetween.
Staple! founder and director Chris Nicholas, who goes by the pseudo name Uncle Staple, was happy with how the show went this past weekend. He also said this was the best show from previous years. He was able to put together 150 exhibitors, seven hours of programming, off-site events, a female-focused guest list and a panels discussing women in art, authors, and how it is a seemingly male-dominated field.
Founded in 2005, STAPLE! was created after Nicholas saw a void in the field of indie media conventions. He is in his 11th year and enjoying every minute of it. We asked him what we expect for next year he said, “He wasn’t sure how he could top this year’s.” We know that he will.

There were so many great artists at this year’s show. The current artist for New 52 Batgirl, Babs Tarr, was on hand along with Lumberjanes creators Grace Ellis and Brooke Allen, Jannelle Asselin, Kate Leth, Jessica Von Braun and many more great authors, artists, crafts, and games.
Overall, the Nerd 411 had a wonderful time at Staple! show. It was family friendly, had good food on hand, and seemed everyone had a great time there. If you missed this years show, we highly recommend that you attend next year’s Staple! We are looking forward to next year and for now, we hope Uncle Staple gets some rest before he starts preparing for next year’s show.
