HavenCon – a safe place for nerds of all walks of life!

Haven Con is Austin’s first LGBTQIA Geek and Gamer convention that was held April 4th-5th at the Holiday Inn Austin Midtown. In its first year, Haven Con was able to put on a fantastic show with guests including Janet Varney and P.J. Byrne (The Legend of Korra), Alexa Heart (Transgender Cosplayer and Model), and more! Events included panels on panels on bi visibility, cosplaying as a transgender person, women in the gaming industry, Legend of Korra and Avatar, a cosplay contest, and a Big Gay Cosplay Wedding! With so much going on, it did feel a bit cramped in the main room – where vendors and marquee events were being held alongside video game setups.

I feel that it had already outgrown its space for a first year con, but I believe that they are able to expand into more space next year. It’s a fun con and a safe environment for everyone.
